On February 13, 2025, the Galena Girls’ Basketball team played against the Stockton Blackhawks. The girls wonhad a very victorious win, with a score of 55-36. The game was a breeze and the Blackhawks were no match for the Pirates.
The Pirates took a 17-11 lead in the first quarter, thanks to three-pointers from sophomores Ell Law and Leah Heller, and senior Gracie Furlong, plus a two-pointer from freshman Megan Koenigs. The Blackhawks scored only 11 points.
Furlong shone in the second quarter, scoring 11 points with four two-pointers and a three-pointer. Heller and Law contributed additional two-pointers, bolstering the Pirates’ lead. Furlong stated, “My focus is always on winning. When we’re ahead, it’s a reminder that we’re working towards our goal of a State Championship.”
The third quarter saw contributions from Dani Rae Hulscher ‘26 and Kendra Bauer ’27, who scored a two-pointer and a three-pointer, respectively. Heller continued her strong performance with two additional two-pointers, and Law added another. Regarding her pre-game routine, Heller stated, ‘I felt we played exceptionally well as a team and achieved success throughout the game. Before games, I review film and get energized with my teammates in the locker room.”
Furlong continued her strong performance in the fourth quarter, scoring three two-point field goals. Megan Koenigs ’28 and Heller fouled out, sending them to the free-throw line. Each player converted one of their two free-throw attempts. Koenigs also contributed an additional two-pointer.
The Pirates played a successful game, highlighted by Gracie Furlong’s 23-point performance. The boys team will host Warren on February 14. The girls’ current 16-8 record demonstrates a successful season.
