In the past few years, many schools have started to do E-learning days instead of snow days. After COVID, E-learning became the new snow day. Teachers would send work home or assign homework online. Students would be able to complete school work at home so they didn’t have to make up the day at the end of the year. At the same time, there are also many disadvantages to E-learning.
There are many advantages to E-learning. One major advantage is that schools don’t have to make up the days. Not having to make up E-learning days is important for GHS this year. After the school year construction will start because of it there will be no room in the schedule to make up snow days.
E-learning allows students to have a day off of school while still doing the work. Many teachers post assignments early in the morning and allow the students to work on them until the end of the day. This gives students time to relax and enjoy themselves without stressing about completing work. “I love E-learning days cause I get to lay in my bed and do my homework,” said Ally Farrey ‘26. Typically, E-learning days are more laid back because teachers can’t always teach the lessons they had planned. “I love E-learning days because they are way more laid back and you have more time to complete your work.” Xela Weber ‘26
E-learning can be faced with many challenges. A disadvantage of E-learning is that many learning opportunities are missed. Even though teachers can assign homework for E-learning days, this can sometimes mess up students’ schedules.“I love how we kinda get a day off but it just ruins my schedule for the week,” said McKaylah Sites ‘26. Some students feel like they don’t learn as well as in person. “I don’t like E-learning because I feel like I never learn as well but I do like the fact that we don’t have to make the days up,” said Kallan Kropp ‘26.
E-learning has revolutionized the way that schools approach snow days. It allows students to access education from the comfort of their homes. Even though there might be some disadvantages to E-learning, there are also many advantages. Schools should think about considering E-learning and all of the possibilities that come with it.
