Outstanding Artist of February – Sanura Savage ’28 – Intro to Art
Ms. Thraen-Borowski -Sanura’s grasp of blending acrylic paint is something that most artists would dream of. Her technical ability would be considered remarkable for any high school student and then you realize she’s a freshman. Sanura is the kind of student you love to have in class. She is very thoughtful when coming up with her ideas, finds ways to challenge herself, and adds even more complexity to the projects. She’s creative, works hard, and is obviously talented. Basically, she is the whole package. Sanuara has really elevated her artistry in the last couple of months and I’m so excited to see what she creates for the rest of her high school art career.

Sanura’s thoughts on all things art:
Why do you think art is important?
I think art is important because it is a creative and unique way to showcase how you want to express yourself.
What does art mean to you?
To me, art is a reflection of who you are, and what makes you unique.
Why do you make art?
I make art to express my creativity and so I can show others what I can do.
What type of art do you like to make?
I mainly enjoy painting; I am the most skilled when it comes to painting, and I believe that paint is my strongest medium when it comes to making art.
How do you plan to incorporate art into your life after high school?
After High school I plan to incorporate art into my life by continuing to create art and not only that but see what others create, being inspired by others artwork gives me motivation to continue making art.
What is something you wish the outside world knew about high school art classes?
High school art classes provide a lot of creative freedom to those who decide to take the class. There are many new opportunities given to you to take on throughout the school year, and it was very nice to be able to try things I never have before.
Also Nominated – Kallan Kropp ’26- Drawing & Painting/3D Art
Ms. Thraen-Borowski – Kallan cranks work out! She attacks every project with enthusiasm and ambition. She’s such a fun student to have in class because she’s always “all in”. Her work is consistently strong, complex, and uniquely her. In addition to her talents, Kallan is incredibly thoughtful. She is the first student to offer to help out, take on additional responsibilities, or stop in the art room to chat. Kallan is truly a bright light and a student I always look forward to seeing.

Also Nominated – Yareb Zidan Manuel Garcia ’26
Ms. Thraen-Borowski – Yareb is truly an artist. He is one of those people that will always be making art. It’s simply a part of him and he loves it. Yareb has a very distinctive style that blends intricate line work and graffiti. He has a strong eye for composition and is intrinsically motivated to always be improving his skills. He is a great student to have in the art room because he is so motivated to make art and also so at home when he is making art. I’m thrilled that he continues to take art classes and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

Congratulations to all the artists!
