For NAHS’ second art show of the year, the club settled on a spring-themed show to reflect the current season the weather is transitioning to. The show will take place on Wednesday, April 9, at the Galena Center of the Arts. Members were able to take inspiration from the weather around us as well as their own interpretation of what springtime means and feels like to them. “It’s always so exciting to see what the members vote on for the theme of the show and then how they each interpret the meaning differently through their work,” Mrs. T shares.
Luna Pham ‘27 created a very spring-like piece for the show that is featured on the official invitation for the show. Pham created an illustration of a kneeling woman dipping a leaf into the water being reflected in black and white and also color. Pham wanted to reflect the transitioning colors that the springtime season brings and include aspects of nature. “This was a very challenging piece to create, but I am very happy with the outcome,” Pham comments.“ I am even more honored that it is included on the invitation for the show.”
Members used many different types of mediums to illustrate their art. Lily Bussan ‘27 used typical acrylic paint to make her piece come to life. “I wanted to make an over-the-ground bridge with many vibrant colors and flowers to create a scenic and mystical representation of spring.” Bussan really wanted to capture the whimsical feeling of spring with her piece and feels that she did just that with the techniques and colors she used in her piece.
Molly Beadle ‘25 had a deep and symbolic meaning for her piece for the show. Beadle considered how vastly her life is beginning to change as we enter the spring season and the heavy emotions that come along with it. “When I think of spring, I think of my upcoming graduation. I reflect on all the things that make me excited to leave, but the one thing that makes it hard is my friends,” Beadle said. Beadle created a piece of each of her closest friend’s favorite flowers and used intent detail to make the flowers pop. Beadle used color pencil for this piece in order to create these details and to deepen the colors and vibrance of the piece.
NAHS officers have been hard at work making the show come to life and the display for the show will be up for the entirety of the month of April. We hope to see many pirates there showing their support for the arts!
