Pirate Competitor of the Week – Owen Hefel Baseball
The baseball team picked up a big non-conference victory over Winnebago last week 5-4 in 9 innings. Owen went 3-5 with 2 RBIs and scored 1 run. On the mound, Owen threw 6 innings with 6 strikeout,s allowing 3 runs. Coach Ty Hartman said, “Owen’s had a great start to the season for us. His consistent play and work at practice has helped us to a 6-1 start.”
Other Nominations – Makenna Berning Softball
Freshman Makenna Berning has been a big contributor to both JV and Varsity teams. Coach Sarah Rosenthal said, “Her batting has been strong and consistent each week as DP for Varsity. She started the season with an in-the-park homerun, followed by another homerun to secure the win against Durand. For JV, Makenna plays a strong third base and continues to crush the ball each week. Makenna’s future looks bright for Galena Softball!”
