The final recipient of the Galena Rotary Student of the Quarter for the ‘24 – ‘25 school year is Yulianna Linares ‘27. This award recognizes sophomores who have excelled in their efforts to improve academically and are not always recognized for these efforts. Students are chosen for this award based on teacher nominations highlighting their achievements.
Yulianna has matured by leaps and bounds this year and continues on the uphill grind. There was quite an impressive discussion about Ms. Linares. Mrs. Calfee stated, “She works so hard in math class, which has been reflected in her grades. She is kind to everyone and never hesitates to work with any of the other students”.
Nurse Ehrler said, “I have worked with Yuli Linares this year, and she has shown so much growth. When I first started working with Yuli, she had some very uncontrolled diabetes, and over the course of this school year, she has grown into being such an advocate for herself and her health. She has learned how to take her Blood Sugars, and now she is on a Continuous Blood Sugar Monitoring System, and she gives her insulin 4 times daily. Medication compliance was always an issue for Yuli, and she has stepped up and shown how she can do anything she sets her mind to. With her health being more controlled, and her watching her diet, working with me, Lisa, local doctor, and UIHC, she has been nothing short of amazing and I am so proud of her!” This allows her to be able to focus on school and sports, and all of the things a high school student should be focusing on! Yuli is deserving of the award in my opinion, as she has shown growth, responsibility, and dedication.”
Lastly, Mrs. Watson remarked, “Yuli has been working so hard in her classes. She completes work, asks questions, and has been preparing for tests. She has to miss school for things outside of her control at times, and she has done such a great job getting her work made up and completed. Additionally, she has taken her health seriously and so maturely. She has attended her appointments, done what the doctors recommended, and taken a whole new level of responsibility. She also joined the soccer team again this year and has been working hard at practices! She is amazing!” Congratulations, Yulianna, keep up your amazing work!
