East Dubuque Warriors could not keep up with Galena Varsity Pirates 5-2 on Thursday.
Galena Varsity Pirates opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three singles. Galena Varsity Pirates first got on the board when Gus Nack singled, scoring one run.
Owen Hefel earned the win for Galena Varsity Pirates. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking three. Bradin Lee took the loss for East Dubuque Warriors. The righty went four innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking four.
East Dubuque Warriors’s Boen Sherman, the number nine hitter, led East Dubuque Warriors with three hits in three at bats. Zander Tierney and Boen Sherman each drove in one run for East Dubuque Warriors. East Dubuque Warriors turned one double play in the game.
Galena Varsity Pirates piled up nine hits in the game. John Heller provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Galena Varsity Pirates with two runs batted in.
