After a few months of work, Galena High School’s The Complete Works of William Shakespeare is almost ready for its showing, with the performances set to begin just a week from now. Despite some slight misgivings revolving around the play’s constitution, the show has made steady progress in its stages of production and is said to be a great comedic treat for viewers.
As a member of the cast myself, I have had the pleasure of working with a great cast, an expansive crew, and insightful directors. Though there have been plenty of hardships, whether it has been set production, memorization, or mapping movements for the stage, there has been much positive feedback given from those involved, upon recently moving the rehearsals to Turner Hall. “The play has been going wonderfully,” said Beckett Simpson ’25. “I love working backstage and helping out all of the actors. Everyone has been doing amazing, and it’s a perfect play to end my high school career on.”
While the show may not have a large cast, there has been an expansive quantity of people working behind the scenes prepping the set design, working diligently to make sure that those subtle, quality of life measures would be taken into consideration, and that polish would be put into fruition. The result? A lovely background, an extremely helpful backstage crew, an organized system of props, and a dedicated, dependable assortment of people assigned to soundboards and stage lights. “It’s really fun working backstage, especially with Seven, because he’s funny. Anyway, the play looks pretty good, and so far, it’s been a promising start,” said Grace McIntyre ‘25.
All in all, the show is nearing completion, and it will be not even a week before its first debut. I encourage you to attend, so that you can see how much great work has been put into this production and, more importantly, so that you can have a few laughs as well!
