The Galena Pirates Softball team secured another win on April 3rd, defeating the Winnebago Indians 3-0. Senior pitcher Ava Hann dominated the game, striking out an impressive 17 batters. “I felt really good because we played against a good team and we won,” Hann commented.
The Pirates’ strong defense prevented Winnebago from scoring any runs. Coach Roseenthal acknowledged the challenge, stating, “We knew this game was going to be tough since Winnebago is a 2A school, but our team has been putting in the work. We are a young Varsity team with the majority being sophomores and freshmen, but luckily, we have four strong senior leaders.” This combination of solid defense and timely hitting allowed the Pirates to score 3 runs and secure the victory.
This win marks the fourth consecutive victory for the Galena Pirates, bringing their season record to 4-0. Community members are encouraged to support the team at their next game on April 8th against the East Dubuque Warriors. “Softball is enjoyable to watch,” said Ruby Kouzmanoff (’28). “You should come support the team.”
