The Galena (GED) Girls Soccer team experienced a challenging first home game of the season on Monday, March 1, falling 7-0 to a strong Orion-Sherrard squad. While the score wasn’t the desired outcome for their home debut, the team remains focused on growth and development as the season progresses.
Despite the score, several players demonstrated strong effort. “I made sure to give more than 110%, no matter what,” shared Caitlin Kennedy (’27). Goalie Molly Beadle (’25) also made key saves under pressure. The team maintained a positive attitude throughout the match, despite trailing 5-0 at halftime. The second half saw continued fast-paced play, with Orion adding two more goals to reach the final score of 7-0.
Coach Spencer Pyle acknowledged the team’s effort, highlighting standout performances: “Violet Doyle was everywhere on the field, and Mya McCoy was key on defense,” noting McCoy’s crucial clearances. Reflecting on the game, Coach Pyle emphasized the valuable learning experience: “Gaining experience and seeing what conference competition is like was valuable. Focusing on the details will be crucial for our future success.”
