Drew Koenigs struck out 10 batters as the starting pitcher led Galena Varsity Pirates past Fulton 4-1 on Tuesday. Drew Koenigs surrendered one hit and one run over five and two-thirds innings while walking five.
A ground out by Gus Nack put Galena Varsity Pirates on the board in the top of the first.
Braeden Brennan walked, which helped Fulton tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
Galena Varsity Pirates captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the sixth after Gus Nack doubled to right field, John Heller singled to left field, and Drew Sullivan grounded out, each scoring one run.
Chase Dykstra took the loss for Fulton. The starter went seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out 14 and walking none. Jacob Loso collected the save.
Gus Nack drove the middle of the lineup, leading Galena Varsity Pirates with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Gus Nack, Drew Koenigs, and John Heller each collected one hit for Galena Varsity Pirates.
Braedon Meyers and Jacob Huisenga each collected one hit for Fulton. Braeden Brennan led the team with one run batted in.
