On Saturday, April 12 the Galena Varsity Pirates traveled to Warren Stockton for an away game and defeated Warren Stockton 6-2 in a game that had a lot of strong pitching and good hitting. Galena scored first in the opening inning when Hahn batted and ran home. Warren Stockton left the lead at 1-0 until the fourth inning when Warren Stockton tied the game at one. The scoring remained close until the fifth inning when Zmich stole second and then scored to push the Pirates ahead 2-1. The climax of the game came in the sixth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Pitcher Hahn threw a three-run homer over left center for a 5-1 advantage. The seventh inning added more points as Dodds scored from second after a pitch to extend the lead to six. Warren Stockton fought hard but couldn’t catch up. Galena finished with nine hits, the last being scored by Dittmar and another by Bauer. Hahn went two for four at the plate with a home run, two total runs scored, and six total bases. Zmich reached base three times, with two runs scored, and two RBIs. Dodds reached base in all four plate appearances, scored a run, and stole a base. Berning contributed a two for three day with an RBI. White had an RBI double, and Schemehorn recorded a pinch hit and reached safely in her only at-bat. The Pirates drew three walks and left nine runners on base. The win improves Galena’s record to eight and sets up the Pirates to maintain their momentum. This performance shows the hard work of the team.
