Good morning, students! This is your official reminder that today marks the start of our exciting Homecoming week! We have so many fun events planned, and it all kicks off today. All students will be walking with their B4 classes to the GEMS gym to watch the highly anticipated Powder Puff Football game between the sophomores and the seniors. It’s sure to be a great game, so let’s cheer on our classmates! Please remember to bring all of your materials with you to your B4 class, as you will be dismissed for the day directly from the GEMS gym. We’ll see you there!
Congratulations to Pirate Competitor of the Week – Mya McCoy. Coach Dennis Wills said, “Mya had a stellar week for us leading the team to a 6-0 start. Mya has worked extremely hard to get ready for her senior year of volleyball and it really shows. For the week, she had 8 kills, 5/7 serving, 1 block, and 3 digs versus Fulton. At the Galena tournament, she ended with the most kills at 38, she went 30/34 serving with 4 aces, 5 blocks, 18 digs, and 1 assist. She also turned in a couple of amazing performances against Riverdale and Glenbard North to help the Pirates on the way to a big tournament championship win! Great job, Mya!”
A huge congratulations to the Galena Volleyball Team for becoming tournament champions on Saturday! They dominated in pool play with wins against Morrison, Riverdale, and Glenbard North. These wins secured their spot in the championship, where they beat East Dubuque and Stockton in two games each to take the title. Way to go, ladies!
Today’s boys/girls golf match vs Fulton at home is postponed due to Fulton’s request. Make up date TBA.
Congratulations to the JV and Varsity Football teams for their season opening wins against the Morris Mustangs. On Friday night the varsity Pirates topped the Mustangs with a 22-14 victory and last night the JV Pirates won with a score of 48-0. This weekend for Homecoming GHS takes on BSMS.
Galena Students, we need your vote! Check your email for the Google form from Mrs. Rosenthal, and vote for your class representatives for homecoming court. This is your voice; you pick who you think best represents your class. Make your vote count. Ballots will close on Tuesday at 2:50 pm.
The Homecoming dance is this Saturday, September 6th, from 7-10 pm. Tickets are $10 per person. If you are bringing a guest from outside of GHS, you’ll need a permission slip. These can be picked up from Mrs. Rosenthal or Mrs. Burken, or printed from your email. All completed slips must be returned by Wednesday, September 3rd, at 2:55 pm. Late slips will not be accepted.
Reminder: To sign out for HR release, if you qualify, the release form must be signed by a parent and returned to the office by Friday. The release may be turned in after that, but there will be a waiting period before you are allowed to take advantage of the HR release.
