Galena has entered the Friday Night 5G Lights Contest. T-Mobile awards 450 schools across the nation with $5000, 25-$25,000 finalist, and a grand prize of 1 million for high school football field renovations. This is something that would be very beneficial as we start constructing our new football field and track to have additional funding for a big time facility!

Attention, students! Please remember to take all of your materials with you to your A4 class. There, your teacher will take attendance, and you will head to GEMS for some super fun Homecoming Games.
Congratulations to our Galena girls’ golf team! They won their home meet against Lena-Pearl City last night with a final score of 206 to 219. Freshman Layla Deloach was the meet’s medalist with a fantastic score of 43, while Lena’s Gemme Musser was the runner-up with a 49. Other scoring players for Galena included Claire Furlong with a 52, Layla Shemehorn with a 55, and Kallan Kroop and Reese Weber both with a 56.
The boys’ team had a close match but unfortunately lost to Lena-Pearl City with a final score of 188 to 183. Lena’s Luke Madigan was the medalist with a 39. The runner-up spot was a tie between Lena’s Grady Winter and our own Brant Romer, both with a score of 43. Other scores for Galena included Drew Phillips with a 46, freshman Drew Ehler with a 49, and both Colton Richardson and freshman Ethan Amaya with a 50. Great effort to both our teams!

Are you a junior or senior and would like to see what Highland Community College is all about? Mrs. Deppe will be taking students to Experience Highland on October 3rd. Students will take a campus tour, see classrooms, meet instructors, and have lunch before returning to GHS. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Deppe by the end of the day on Monday.
A4 and B4 Honors Bio Students: You may now sign up to participate in the 4th-grade field day outside of Mrs. Bradbury’s room. The first 6 students to sign up will get to go!
Reminder: To sign out for HR release, if you qualify, the release form must be signed by a parent and returned to the office by Friday. The release may be turned in after that, but there will be a waiting period before you are allowed to take advantage of the HR release.

We’ve tallied the votes for today’s Pirate Spirit Day dress-up contest, and you all showed incredible spirit! While everyone looked fantastic in their blue and white, some classes really shivered our timbers. In fourth place, the freshmen! In third place, the juniors! And in second place, the seniors! And the winner, taking home first place, are the sophomores!
Don’t forget the parade wil start promptly at 4:00 pm downtown today!!
This Saturday is the homecoming dance at GEMS from 7-10 and it costs $10 to get in. The doors will close at 8:00 and no one will be allowed in after that. A reminder that no water bottles are allowed into the dance and all out of school dates MUST bring an ID.
Yesterday’s rowdy crowdy was intense and the results are in.. 4th – sophomores; 3rd – Fresh; 2nd – Juniors; and the rowdiest crowd, the Seniors.
The overall rankings of this week are… 4th place – sophomores, 3rd place – freshmen, 2nd place – juniors and 1st place seniors. There are still a lot of points today at the games and float!!
