Roman Romer Varsity Football – Roman Romer completed 21 out of 28 passes for 315 yards and 2 TDS. He also added a rushing score. Coach Kyle Knight said, “Roman played a great game and did an awesome job of being accurate with the football while exploiting BSMS’s man-to-man defense. We will continue to rely on Roman as the competition stiffens in the weeks ahead.”

Cora Gullone, Freshman Volleyball – Coach Amy McCoy said, “Cora has really stepped it up so far this season. She is a very hard worker every day in practice, and it shows when she comes out on game day. This week, Cora was a serving machine. We played in a double header Thursday night, and out of the 6 sets, she missed 1 serve, going 20/21 with 3 aces. I am very proud of Cora and her hard work and dedication. Keep it up, Cora!!”
Kenzie Harris Freshman Volleyball – Coach Amy McCoy said, “Kenzie is such a huge part of our team, she is one of our team captains and is our top leader in kills and digs. She comes to practice every day wanting to work hard and improve her volleyball skills to the next level. She is driven and has a great attitude and supports the other players. Keep working hard Kenzie, I am very proud of you.”
Layla DeLoach Girls Golf – Coach Dave Hahn said, “In Layla’s third meet ever, as a freshman, Layla shot 8 over par 43 to lead the Pirates to a victory over Lena/Pearl City. Galena won with a score of 206 to 219.”
Kingston Sanders JV Football – Kingston Sanders had a huge game for the JV football team this past Monday in Galena’s 48-0 victory over Morrison. Coach Tyler Sincock commented, “He finished with 14 carries for 89 yards and 2 TD’s and 3 receptions for 58 yards and 2 TD’s. Kingston ran hard and forced a lot of missed tackles on a few of his runs. He also made a couple nice plays defensively from his defensive end position.”
Sawyer Hackney JV Football – Sawyer Hackney started his high school football career with a big game against Morrison for the JV football team. Coach Tyler Sincock said, “He ended up with 16 carries for 124 yards and 2 receptions for 14 yards. With his speed out of the backfield, Sawyer is definitely a weapon for us offensively.”
Berkeley Sincock – 8th Grade Volleyball – Coach Kailyn Stumpf said, “Berkeley had a great week on the court. She had several kills as well as aces that ultimately led to our wins against Lena and River Ridge. Berkeley is a force at the net and shows great promise for Galena Volleyball. Way to go, Berkeley!”
Kaitlyn Watson – 7th grade volleyball – Coach Makenzie Casper said, “Kaitlyn had a huge role in our two wins this week against Lena and River Ridge. She had 6 kills, 8 assists, and 6 aces. Kaitlyn’s positive attitude and determination to do her best really shows through practices and games. I can’t wait to watch her grow as a pirate athlete!”
Drew Koenigs Varsity Football – Drew Koenigs had 5 catches for 114 yards and one touchdown. Coach Knight said, “Drew used his size and speed advantage against the smaller BSMS defensive backs to consistently win separation on his routes. Drew is a matchup nightmare on the outside and one of our best offensive weapons.”
Gus Nack Varsity Football – Gus Nack led the team in tackles and contributed an interception as well. Coach Knight commented, “Gus is the heartbeat of our defense and we rely on him to make big plays in big situations. We look forward to seeing what Gus can do as he finishes his Galena football career.”
Koy Smith 7th Grade Football – Koy had 2 touchdowns against Southwestern/East Dubuque last Tuesday. Coach Kevin Knautz said, “Koy gives it his all in practice and the games.”
Bryce Berning 8th Grade Football – Bryce Berning had 2 touchdowns this week in the game against Southwestern/ East Dubuque. Coach Knautz commented, “Bryce is a quiet leader on the team, he leads by example. He is a strong runner and plays tough on defense.”
