Homecoming week has now passed, and it was filled with excitement and fun. This year’s theme was musical. The seniors chose SpongeBob the Musical, the juniors took a blast to the past with Grease, the sophomores showcased The Greatest Showman, and the freshmen roared with The Lion King. ”Homecoming is always a chaotic week filled with many activities, but it’s always fun to see what each class comes up with,” said the student council senior class president, Violet Doyle.
Throughout the week, Pirates participated in various homecoming activities, including dress-up days, hallway decorating, pep rallies, and themed competitions. Each class brought their A-game in showing school spirit and creativity. Cora McCoy ‘28 said, “My favorite part of homecoming games was when they did the eating contest; it was very entertaining and funny.”
A few larger events carried more weight in points, including Hallway, Skit Night, Paint the Town, and Float Building. For the Hallway competition, juniors took first place, followed by seniors, freshmen in third, and sophomores in fourth. Skit Night, the most anticipated event of the week, had everyone eager to see each class’s performance. The skit results were juniors in first, seniors in second, sophomores in third, and last, the freshmen in fourth.
The homecoming dance is a highlight; everyone is looking forward to it, but it didn’t live up to its expectations this year. The dance was held in the cafeteria at GEMS, making it cramped and awkward. Furthering the dance, the speakers blew out, making the music hard and uneven to hear. Avery Werner ’27, said, “I thought the homecoming dance was boring, and I think next year we need better speakers and a DJ.” The students tried to make the best of the situation, but it wasn’t the same. Many people left feeling disappointed that the dance didn’t live up to the rest of the homecoming week’s fun.
In the end, Homecoming week was packed with creativity, competition, and plenty of school spirit. Each event showcased the hard work and enthusiasm of the classes, making this year’s musical-themed celebration one to remember. Senior Mya McCoy said, “I think next year they should move the dance to the gym, and all the classes need to get hype and just have fun.”
