Let’s recognize the varsity volleyball team for a strong showing at the Dubuque Tournament on Saturday! The team finished the day with two wins and two close losses. They opened the tournament with victories over Independence (21-13, 21-17) and Prince of Peace (21-18, 21-13). They then faced tough competition, falling to Dubuque Senior (17-21, 9-21) and battling in a tight three-set match against Dubuque Hempstead (19-21, 21-16, 19-21). The team had some fantastic individual stats for the day. Kill leaders were Mya McCoy with 29, Kendra Bauer with 16, and Macie Weber with 14.
The service game was solid, with Jayme Frank going a perfect 21 for 21 with two aces, and Macie Weber going 30 for 33 with three aces. At the net, Addison Stroyan had eight blocks, followed by Kendra Bauer with six. Emma Ehrler was outstanding, tallying 72 assists throughout the day. Defensively, Zoe Blaum led with 24 digs, and Mya McCoy added 20. Great effort, ladies!
The Pirates Football team truly left it all on the field Friday night in a hard-fought battle against Forreston. In a game that came down to the wire, the Pirates narrowly fell with a final score of 22-20.
Despite the tough loss, our team’s effort and close score against a quality opponent show their grit. The Pirates now stand at 3-2 for the season. Looking ahead, we need to bring the noise! The team returns home this Friday to host the undefeated Stockton Blackhawks in a big conference matchup. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Let’s pack the stands and cheer our Pirates on to victory! Go Pirates!
Congratulations to Freshman Golfer Layla DeLoch, who is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week. Layla led the Pirates to a second-place finish at the Upstate Illini conference meet, shooting a 104. Coach Dave Hahn said, “In doing so, she called a two-stroke penalty on herself for a putting green violation. With that said, her 104 was top four in the meet, which qualified her for first team all conference for the 2025 season. Congratulations, Layla!”
