Congratulations to Layla DeLoach Girls Golf – Pireate Competitor of the Week
Layla, a freshman, led the Pirates to a second-place finish at the Upstate Illini conference meet, shooting a 104. Coach Dave Hahn said, “In doing so, she called a 2 stroke penalty on herself for a putting green violation. With that said, her 104 was top 4 in the meet, which qualified her for first team all-conference for the 2025 season. Congratulation,s Layla!”

Jordan Worhsam 7th Grade Football – Coach Kevin Knautz said, “Jordan Worhsam Had a great game against BSMS Tuesday. Jordan ran for a touchdown and threw for two 2pt. conversions. Jordan is always ready to play and do anything to make the team better. Jordan is always the first kid at practice and the last one to leave.”
Hayden Gates 8th Grade Football – Coach Knautz said, “Hayden Gates had a very productive game against BSMS, rushing for two touchdowns and receiving a pass for one. Hayden has grown into a complete football player on both sides of the ball this year. He also has the longest rush of the year with a touchdown, going 99 yards against Stockton. I can’t wait to see what Hayden does as a pirate in future seasons.”
Alaina Heller JV Volleyball – Coach Katie Furlong said, “Alaina has done an amazing job of running our offense all year long, but really showed her true talent this past week! She helped lead the JV White squad to a win on Tuesday night against Scales Mound, as well as a first-place finish in the Polo Lady Marcos 2025 JV Volleyball Classic on Saturday! Lainey dished out 63 assists, had 14 aces, and went 34/35 from the service line. She is not only a great athlete, but she is also a joy to have in practice! The future is bright for this freshman setter! Great job, Lainey!!”
Brecken Geary 8th Grade Volleyball – Coach Kailyn Stumpf said, “Brecken is a very well-rounded athlete. She is level-headed and reliable, which makes for a fantastic setter. Overall, Brecken had 31 aces, 44 assists, and 8 kills this week against Shullsburg, Seton, Scales Mound, and every team we faced in the tournament. Brecken is consistently showing up and performing well in both practice and games. She’s not afraid to take charge and lead her teammates, which is a valuable quality in this sport. I’m proud of her accomplishments so far. Way to go, Brecken!”
Noelle Ottenhausen 8th Grade Volleyball – Coach Stumpf commented, “Noelle made some incredible plays this week for us. She’s quick to cover the floor and has really stepped up for us in the back row. Noelle had 14 kills, 3 aces, and 6 blocks this week. She has made tremendous growth this year. Noelle is a smart and reliable player. I’m proud of her! Way to go, Noelle!”
Harper Berning 7th grade volleyball – Coach Makenzie Casper said, “Harper is a consistent player on the court and is very smart with the ball. She had 11 aces, 6 kills, and 13 assists this week. Harper is a great asset to the team who shows great dedication to the sport. Keep it up, Harper!”
Tinley Zmich 7th grade volleyball – Coach Casper commented, “Tinley has such a positive presence on and off the court. She had 7 aces and numerous digs that greatly contributed to winning against Scales Mound, Shullsburg, and Seton this week. Tinley is someone that her teammates can always count on. Great job, Tinley!”
Mason Smith Varsity Football – Mason had 5 catches for 2 TD’s and 59 yards on Friday in a close loss to Forreston. Coach Kyle Knight said, “Mason stepped up big in the clutch with some great catches on a last minute drive to give us a chance to tie the game. Mason has a great feel for finding space on the football field and has great hands. We look forward to watching what Mason can do the rest of the season.”

- Congratulations to Vinny Gullone who set a school record at the Jim Boughton Invite in Dubuque last Thursday. He ran 16:15 to break the 5k school record. Great job Vinny!
- Congratulations to both the 7th & 8th grade volleyball teams for winning their own Galena Invitational Tournaments the past few weeks.
- Congratulations to the JV White Volleyball team winning the Polo JV Tournament on Saturday.
- Please join us for Galena Volleyball’s Fight Night on Tuesday, October 7 (home vs. Stockton). All proceeds from this event will go to Dusty and Beth Berning’s family. There will be a silent auction, chili dinner hosted by the football team, games, t-shirt sales and more! Silent auction and chili dinner will begin at 4:30. The Freshmen team will play at 5:00, with JV and Varsity to follow. 7th and 8th grade volleyball will also be playing against Southwestern starting at 4:15.

- Friday Night Lights T-Mobile Contest – A big thanks to everyone that supported Galena in the T-Mobile Contest as we were one of the 450 schools to win $5000. There were over 2100 schools participating in this across the nation. The top 25 finalists were announced on Friday and unfortunately Galena was not one of them.
