Sky’s the Limit

“Did I just hear thunder?” is the question superintendent Mr. Herbst tweeted after Katie Furlong slammed the ball down the court at the Warren volleyball team. The Pirates won the match soon after. The varsity volleyball team is off to a good start this year with twelve wins and just one loss.

Their only loss came in the championship of the Galena tournament, to Moline, a larger school, and they are undefeated in conference play. Emma Eaton is happy with the beginning of the season. “I think our season is off to a great start. We have great chemistry and all of our hard work in practice is paying off in games.”

The Pirates are fortunate to have strong senior leadership this season, both on and off the court, and they believe that has contributed to their early success. “It’s really nice to have those four (Katie Furlong, Ellie Spillane, Kristen Calvert, and Natalie Calvert) to look up to. They push me to be a good player on the court, and a good teammate all the time,” said junior player Hannah Wubben.

Despite the fact that it is still early in their season, the Pirates are keeping the end in mind. “I’m really excited for what we can accomplish this season,” says Ellie Spillane. “We’ve got some strong individual talent, and we all play well together. We’re working really hard right now, and we hope to do well in the postseason.”
