A minor setback for a major comeback

Dalton Bauer was more ready than ever for the start of the 2016 football season.  As many know, he had just beaten cancer.  He worked hard every day to be in peak physical condition when he was finally under the Friday night lights once again.

There was a lot of anticipation for Dalton’s return to the field, but it was cut short when he went out of the game at Forreston early, and never came back in.  The next day, the terrible news broke that Dalton had fractured his leg, and would be out for a minimum of three weeks.  “The hardest thing for me was going through what I went through to come back, only to have it taken from me again,” said Bauer about how he took the news.

While he is optimistic about his return, his team will definitely miss him.  Senior teammate Brett Shutts explained that the team missed their star running back saying, “We’re staying as positive as we can, and we know that we are going to have to work that much harder to have success.”

Dalton, now in a boot, still supports his teammates.  He attends every practice and does his best to encourage them, and help out any way he can.  While he wishes that he could be playing his entire senior year of football, he knows that all he can do is stay positive, and cheer on his team from the sidelines.

“It kills me that I’m not out on the field with my team, but it’s good to see how hard they have worked to make up for me being hurt,” said Bauer.  While Dalton understands that he requires some time to recover, he knows one thing for sure.  He will be back.
