Creating Fun
The smell of wet paint, pencil and eraser shavings accompanied by the occasional clay splatter is what you’ll find when visiting the Art Room of GHS. This explosion of creativity is naturally home to the Art Club, which was created by Ms. Siese. This year Isabel Karnuth and Julia Lieb are running the Art Club and are hoping to make this year the best year for art club members.
“It’s a creative space,” says Ms. Siese “a no pressure outlet for students who don’t have an art class.”
Isabel agrees, saying “It allows [students not in art] to express themselves.” Last year the group did just that with many projects including making wreaths at the ARC for a fundraiser, painting Christmas ornaments, making coloring book pages, throwing a Christmas party, and tie dying.
In comparison to last year, Isabel plans to involve members even more by having more projects. She says that she would like to allow people different options and allow them to come up with their own ideas. She also says that the group plans to do more community work as well.
Some of the projects that the club has planned for this year includes painting a mural in the cafeteria, making wreaths and trees to sell in November, throwing a party, Making scrapbook pages, and Raku firing. Samantha Duhack, an Art Club Member, says that she looks forward to the Raku firing the most but she also looks forward to the bigger projects planned by the group. “The planned ones are always good.” Isabel plans to get funding for these projects by doing fundraisers such as selling Root Beer Floats at lunch.
Isabel says people should join the Art Club because “Everyone needs a little art in life.”
Samantha agrees, saying “It’s not a big commitment. It’s just fun. It’s a nice break from other school commitments.”
Ms. Siese summarizes by saying people should join because “it’s fun. We are wonderful. It’s the Art Room. And we’re good people.”
