“Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that’s a straw, you see? Watch it. Now, my straw reaches acroooooooss the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I… drink… your… milkshake!” says Daniel Day-Lewis. This is one of the most iconic lines of the movie and it rightfully so. “ There Will Be Blood” is a true treasure of the film industry that is about a young man searching fortune in the oil business. He is told about a place where oil is seeping through the ground and his life changes forever. He brings fortune to this town but also tears the town apart at the same time.  What make this movie so great are the actors and the whole storyline. One thing that really hurt this movie was the confusing nature at some points during the movie.

The one thing that I thought was absolutely amazing about this movie was Daniel Day-Lewis’s performance in this film. He truly got into his character through filming and you can definitely tell. He makes the nice guy  turned bad guy very believable. Another actor that made the movie was Dillon Freasier who played H.W., Daniel’s son in the movie. He didn’t have many lines, but he pulled of the silent type very well and also had incredible facial expressions, which helped him communicate with  the audience. The other thing that made this movie great was the story that the movie followed. In the beginning it shows a young Daniel mining for gold on his own, but while in the mine he finds oil in rock form and it changes his whole view of mining. Then it transfers on to how he joins a group of men who are mining for oil and eventually find it. It then transfers to many years in the future where he is now an oil tycoon in the making and a young man comes to him telling him about a place where oil is seeping out of the ground. This is where most of the story takes place and basically where it ends. The last 20 minutes show Daniel as a crazy alcoholic, who is a recluse  at his mansion.

The one thing that really hurt the movie in my opinion was how confusing some of the parts of this movie were to me. One big thing that really confused me was that the man that comes to Daniel to tell him about the oil seeping through the ground is actually Eli’s twin brother, which isn’t exposed till the middle/end of the movie. This is something that you can realize as soon as Daniel shows up on the land, but it’s really not clear till the end of the movie.

In conclusion,” There Will Be Blood” is a theatrical masterpiece that has everything that you need in movies. A great plot, good actors and the perfect setting to satisfy the both things listed earlier. If you haven’t seen this movie I highly suggest it to you. It’s an award winner and moving movie that must be scene in order to truly appreciate the art of theatre.
