The Lady Pirates celebrate their win against the Forreston Cardinals.

The Lady Pirates won their first round of Class 2A Sectionals at Riverdale High School verse the Forreston Cardinals on Monday, October 29.

They won the first game 29 to 27 and the next game 25 to 21. Morgan Wills 19’ led the Pirates with 16 kills. Samantha Stoffregen 19’ led the team with digs totalling 45. Mackenzie Muehleip led the team with a total of 3 blocks.

Since they were such a good team we were able to keep rallies going for longer amounts of time, this made the game seem longer and more tiring for the girls. Muehleip 20’ said “the game felt like it lasted longer than other games and it was so tiring but games that are back and forth and exciting like that one are fun to play.”

The lady Pirates made an impressive comeback in the second game when they were down by as much as 6 points. Superfan Kris Knautz 19’ said “It was really exciting when we made the comeback and we were able to see what the Pirates are truly capable of.”

After the Pirates finished their game they stayed to watch their competition, The Lena-Winslow Panthers. After watching them McKenna Curran said “I’m nervous because we’ve played them twice and they’ve won once and we’ve won once therefore you aren’t certain who the winner will be. I’m excited because I know that if we play good we are able to win.” \

The Lady Pirates will face the Panthers on Wednesday, October 31 at 6:00 in the Riverdale High School gym.
