Comeback Victory

The Galena Pirates took on Benton Rangers on December 1st at Benton High School. Final score was 71-52. Mackenzie Muehleip ‘20 lead the team with 11 points just in the first quarter and she was the only one who scored in the second quarter with a two pointer. Half time score was 32 Pirates – 35 Benton making it a close game.

In the first quarter Muehleip made 5 two-pointers and 1 out of her 2 free throws. With the score being so close after half time there was no room for mistakes, with this being clear the girls came out strong.

In the third quarter Galena made their comeback. Freshman Maggie Furlong came out stronger than ever scoring 10 points for the Pirates. Furlong made 2 three-pointers and 2 two-pointers.

Following her was Muehleip scoring 9. She made 4 two-pointers and 1 out of 2 of her free throws.

Corina Noble ‘21 was not far behind and  made 1 three, 2 two’s and made both of her free throws. By the end of third quarter the Pirates took the lead with a score of 67-52. Giving the Galena girls a lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Muehleip, the only one scoring, with two two-pointers giving them their final score of 71 points.

“It was a really good game,” said Muehleip. “I knew that we had to come out strong and work together to get the win.”
