Junior basketball player Ethan Hefel is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette. Last week in two games vs. East Dubuque, Ethan had 5 points, 5 assists and 16 points, 4 assists.  He followed that up with 9 points, 8 assists in Saturday’s loss at Aquin. According to coach Matt Wienen, “this year Ethan has bought into a new role of distributing the basketball for our team. I always knew Ethan could score and play good defense, but this year he’s made himself a better player by leading our team in assists. He’s a complete basketball player and hard working young man. Whatever I and our coaching staff ask him to do, he puts his head down and does his best to achieve it.  He’s the ultimate competitor!”  Ethan was honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.
