Pirate Competitor of the Week (October 18, 2021)
Junior volleyball player Paeton Hyde is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette. For the week, Paeton had 17 blocks and 22 kills to help the Pirates to a 6-1 record and runner-up finish at the Champaign St. Thomas More tournament.  Coach Dennis Will praised her effort, saying “Paeton turned in a great performance against rival East Dubuque and then backed it up with a stellar performance at the St. Thomas More tournament. Paeton has worked very hard to improve on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. This hard work is really starting to show and at just the right time! It was great to see that other coaches also saw this as she was elected to the All-Tournament team at the St Thomas More tourney. Great job Paeton!”  Paeton was honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.

Also Nominated:
Freshman Gracie Furlong had 42 kills, 30 digs and went 73/75 in serves with 7 aces over the week.  According to coach Dennis Wills, “Gracie has been an amazing addition to our varsity team. She turned in some great performances this past week both at our home game and at the St Thomas More tournament. She was recognized for her stellar play by getting selected to the All-Tournament team in a field of 16 teams. Great job Gracie!”
