On Wednesday, September 8, eight first-year Galena FFA members attended the section Greenhand conference. A new member of the FFA is known as a greenhand, and they are invited to the section greenhand day. Freshman Johnny Heller described Greenhand Day as “A fun experience where I learned a lot about agriculture and FFA.” The students went through rotations where they learned about the FFA, agriculture, and leadership skills through different activities. He also said he learned things that he thought he wouldn’t learn. “I learned about animals and lots of stuff in the rotations”. The rotations included games, activities, sample competitions, and demonstrations teaching many aspects of FFA. Being a first year member may be a lot to take in, but a fun approach like the Greenhand day is a great way to open your eyes to Agriculture.
