Connor Glasgow ‘24 stuffs Collin Fosler, a senior from Scales Mound. The game ends with Galena losing 62-67 although the Pirates never go down without a fight. The boys will continue to practice and train for the next home game against Scales Mound on February 1st. “I think we have a good chance of beating Scales Mound next time around on our home court,” says Connor Glasgow,” I don’t think they know what’s coming.” Submitted photo.

On Jan. 6, the JV and varsity boys took on Scales Mound at Scales Mound. People of Galena got to watch a great matchup, but unfortunately the boys left Scales Mound that night with a loss. At the time, Scales Mound was averaging about 73 points a game, easily beating teams left and right.

That evening, the boys set the theme as “hick out.” This would mean the students section would show their spirit by wearing what would be known as a “country looking” outfit. Students went all out for this theme and even made comments related to the theme in their cheers. “We may have been a little too loud and obnoxious,” says Julia Townsend ‘23,” but it was worth the reaction of the players on the court it brought. I think we really got in their heads”

Galena started the game strong, with the stars of the first quarter ending at Galena with 18 points and Scales Mound with 13 points. “The team anticipated this game to be a difficult one,” Ethan Hefel ‘22 said,” We were preparing for Scales Mound all week long because we knew they had an undefeated record” Scales Mound’s record at the time was 10-0 while now it is 13-0. Second quarter, Scales Mound led with 28 points and Galena with 22. The rest of the game goes about the same as the second quarter. The game ends with a loss on the Galena side and an ending score of 62-67. Many people have been spreading the word about the game and how Scales Mound got to take us on their home court. While next time around, the Galena Pirates will have the home court advantage.
