Pirate Competitor of the Week (April 25, 2022):
This week, we recognize three members of the GHS Journalism team as our Pirate Competitors of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette.

Senior Maddy Glasgow placed 2nd in the state in the Yearbook Double Page Spread Layout category. “I’m so proud of her,” said Coach Susan Bookless. “Maddy has worked hard in Publications class all year, and it’s clear that she was able to demonstrate what she has learned about layout and design.”

Senior James Salazar placed 3rd in the state in Editorial Cartooning. “I thought the topic James was given was really hard,” said Coach Susan Bookless. “But he handled the prompt awesomely and created a well drawn and creative comic. It was so great to see him earn his medal.”

Junior Sam Eaton placed 5th in the state in Sports Writing. “Sam is a great writer,” said Coach Susan Bookless. “He knows how to take the information provided to him and find a unique angle and a creative way to write his article. I can’t wait to see what Sam does in the future.”
