Lilliana Asta, Oliver Ortega, and Emma Blaum- Speech

Lilliana, Oliver, and Emma all received first place at the River Ridge Speech Tournament on Saturday. Lilliana was in Special Occasion Speaking, Oliver in Dramatic Interpretation, and Emma in Oratorical Declamation. These three students work hard on their speeches, come to practice for help and represent Galena in very positive ways. Oliver and Lilliana are new members of the speech team, and Emma is the team captain in her third year of competition. “We are getting ready for the Regional competition in February, and with the results we had this weekend, I’m really looking forward to seeing what the team can accomplish,” said Head Coach Susan Bookless.

Also Nominated – Dani Hulsher JV Girls Basketball – Dani had 17 of our 29 points to help Galena to a victory over Stockton. Coach Engle commented, “She is a great player with a bright future as a pirate! Dani is always eager and ready to learn and shows great leadership both on and off the floor. She gives all and always with a positive attitude. She is a great asset to this team as she leads the team in points scored with 92 in 11 games.”

Kaden Hauber Varsity Boys Basketball – This week in 3 games, Kaden has scored on average 14 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals a game to help us go 2-1 for the week. According to Coach Wienen, “These last 7-8 games Kaden has picked up his play a lot both on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, but also being a great leader in practice and in games.  He is one of the hardest workers we have in our program. He shows up every day ready to work and the hard work he’s putting is really starting to pay off for him!  He is one of our top defensive players, gets our offense in the right sets, and is always a very positive player with his teammates.  He’s always trying to keep them positive and motivated. Kaden had a very good freshman season last year for us and his role on the team this season has increased and he’s done a very good job excepting that role of leader.  Looking forward to seeing how much more Kaden can excel in the rest of this season and the years to come!”
