Ava had a great outing at the NUIC Conference Meet this past week placing 2nd overall in the conference. She shot a 101. Ava helped lead our team to a second place finish only one stroke behind River Ridge. Coach Kane Hyde commented,  “Ava has proven to be one of the top golfers in the area all season. A second place finish at our conference meet was a great way to show the hard work she put in this year. I am very excited to see Ava and the rest of our team play at regionals on Thursday.”

Connor also had a good showing at the NUIC Conference Meet. Connor tied for first with a 78 and played in a two hole playoff and finished second overall. According to Coach Fleege, “Connor has been scoring around 40 strokes a meet and has been a medalist 4 of out 6 meets. He has been very consistent the whole year and is ready for regionals! I’m very proud of what he has achieved so far.”

Ava and Connor were both honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.

Also Nominated…

McKenna Watson 7th grade Blue Volleyball

7th grade coach Emily Rigopoulos said, “McKenna has done a great job running a 5-1 rotation for the majority of our season. She has made vast improvements each week in the setter position and played a huge role in our win over Stockton on Tuesday, collecting 6 assists and 12 aces.”

Emma Ehrler – 8th Grade Volleyball

8th Grade Coach Ruth Ann Einsweiler commented, “This season Emma has been a leader for the 8th grade team. She is leading the team in assists and is always striving to give each hitter the exact set they like. At the Galena 8th grade tournament this past Saturday, Emma had some amazing serving runs that led us to a second place finish after losing to Stockton in the championship game in 3 tough sets. Emma’s love for the sport shows and will help us finish the season strong.”

Cora McCoy – 8th Grade Volleyball

8th Grade Coach Einsweiler said, “Cora is one of the most consistent players on the team. As an outside hitter, she knows how to move the ball around by hitting line, cross court, and catching them off guard with tips. This season though she has really shined in the back row. She can read the ball very well and be exactly where the ball is. These skills along with her strong serves, led the team to 6 wins this week.”
