This year’s Winter Formal is going to be legendary. For the first time, the Student Council will roll out a Winter Spirit week to build anticipation for this year’s Winter Formal. “Having a spirit week will hopefully make this experience more engaging for students,” said senior class president Molly Beadle ‘25. “Having a Spirit Week will allow everyone to enjoy the fun.”
Student council members have been working hard for months to develop ideas to make Winter Formal more enticing to students. The Council settled on the idea of a Winter Wonderland theme with a week of fun before the dance and an iPad giveaway that will be announced the night of the dance. “Nothing gets the students more excited than free technology. So we hope this will draw more students into attending the dance,” said Student Council co-advisor Mrs.Rosenthal.
Starting the week off on Tuesday, January 21, a bake sale will be available with all goods priced at $1. “I thought a bake sale would be a good fundraiser,” said Evelyn Callahan ‘25, “There will be everything from cookies of all kinds, brownies, and even cake pops. It’s going to be an awesome start to the week.” Bake sale items will be available to purchase in the morning and during student lunch periods.
Wednesday, a candy guessing jar game will be available for students to partake in. The winner of this will win non-transferable free Winter Formal tickets for entry into the dance. “Giving out free tickets to the dance gives students less of an excuse not to go, and we hope this will increase attendance,” Jalyn Walker ‘26 commented.
As for Thursday, we encourage all GHS staff and students to participate in a “White Out” dress-up day. If a student is wearing white, their name will be entered into a drawing for free Winter Formal tickets to the dance, which are also non-transferable. All students will stay for homeroom for a chance to take part in a Half Court Contest. Each shot will be $1 and if you make the shot, an extra entry of your name gets added to the iPad drawing. “Being able to offer different activities and contests so students can get involved, is exactly the goal.” shared Violet Doyle ‘26, “This helps make the week more fun and allows participation from all students.”
Friday will consist of PJ day and The Spot will be coming in and selling their town’s favorite lit teas for five dollars for a small or a medium drink. The Spot will be available for purchase during the morning before school in the cafeteria. “We knew being able to end the week comfortably and with a delectable drink would be the perfect close out to the week,” Mason Smith ‘26 says. Student Council hopes for a week of fun and to see everyone at the dance on Saturday, January 25 from 7 – 9!
