On March 27 Ms. Peart and six FFA members went out to clean up the FFA stretch of Hwy 20 which runs through Galena, Illinois. The Highway cleanup has been an event that has happened in the past but Ms. Peart decided to bring it back again! The six members who contributed their time were Ava Heitkamp ‘28, Addison Stroyan ‘28, Alexa Stroyan ‘28, Avery Storyan ‘28, Jack Duggan ‘27 and, Grace Connor ‘25.
FFA Members and FFA Advisor Ms. Peart were able to collect four large bags of trash with only one mile of roadway. These trash bags were 55 gallons and were filled all the way to the top. Along with picking up trash, members found some interesting items: a phone, air tag, walkie-talkie, and license plate.
FFA Advisor Ms. Peart said, ‘All of the students did a great job and worked hard to clean the road. Please don’t litter. This was only one mile of roadway. Imagine what is all out there.’ FFA members were only able to clean one side of the roadway that day, but they hope they can clean the other side soon.
Grace Connor was the only senior who participated in the FFA Highway clean-up and said, “I had fun doing it and it is something good that we can do for the community.”
In conclusion, the FFA Highway cleanup was a good thing to do for our community and helped clean up our areas along the roads. Members said, if they were tasked with doing this again they wouldn’t have a problem with it.
