Galena High School’s Key Club is always looking for ways to highlight all the hard work their members put in all year round. Key Club member of the month is the perfect way to put a spotlight on individual members and recognize all that they do. This is awarded to those who go above and beyond to showcase their commitment to service. Whether it’s stepping up when needed, taking on extra opportunities, or even just displaying valuable character, all contribute to the criteria of this award.
To kick off the New Year, Junior Lex Abt was awarded Key Club member of the month for the month of January. Service activities tend to slow down during this chilling month, but this didn’t stop Abt from helping wherever needed. “Lex recently put in the time to complete his 10 hours of service for the 2025/2026 school year. Despite a long speech in between, Lex made two separate treks, one on Friday and one on Sunday, to Eagle Ridge Resort to volunteer at their Winter Carnival. We were told that Lex did a fabulous job, and it was a pleasure meeting him,” said Co-Adviser Mrs. McIntyre. Abt always commits himself to whatever club or service activity that is at hand and is never intimated to try it all while giving it his all. The effort shown by Abt truly makes Key Club what it is and is what keeps other members motivated to do the same.
