Will the Senior Class keep up traditions?

GHS has its traditions. One of its traditions for many years was having a senior banquet, where students dressed up, watched the senior slide show together along with teachers, and the prom court was announced. In the past few years, the senior banquet has ended. However, the Class of 2016 was okay with not having one. The Class of 2017 isn’t having a senior banquet this year as well.

Principal Mrs. Murphy said the Senior Banquet no longer had a purpose and that it was losing its zest. She said “We were spending a lot of money and a lot of seniors felt they had to buy another dress.”

Another tradition for the Senior Class is having a senior slideshow. Mrs. McGovern, who retired last year always voluntarily took charge of it in the past. This year it was brought to the attention that there was no senior slideshow and Mrs. Howard and a few seniors decided to put one together. Mrs. McGovern also volunteered to help put their photos together.

Mrs. Howard said, “Obviously parents liked the senior slideshow because photos are pouring in.”

Eighty-six percent of the senior class believes that the senior banquet is a tradition and that we should have one along with the senior slideshow, according to a survey taken on April 12, 2017. It was also suggested by the Senior Class that the class sponsors should be in charge of the slideshow and students can help with it. Hopefully someone will take charge for the future graduates and the Senior Class with keep some of its traditions, and maybe start new ones, as well.
