Maddy Glasgow Places 4th in FFA Competition
On February 4, GHS junior Maddy Glasgow competed in the District 1 FFA Agriculture Education competition. During this competition, each participant created a lesson plan for a topic that would be covered in an Introduction to Agriculture class. They had to submit their plan and lesson materials to be judged. After this, Glasgow presented a 10-minute portion of her lesson to judges and “pretend students” virtually.
Maddy did a lesson on preparing for a speech. Her presentation covered what clothes to wear, how to handle stage fright, how to practice, and more. For the judges, she talked about stage fright and how to cope with it. For the students, she prepared a presentation on how to dress and had them guess which were appropriate to wear. Glasgow picked this topic because she has had a lot of experience in public speaking as she spoke at assemblies in middle school.
Glasgow placed fourth in the virtual competition even though it was a snow day for the school. “Competing I was extremely nervous because I competed on a snow day so I didn’t have Ms. Lee there to give me some tips or walk me through it beforehand,” explained Glasgow. “After the competition I was very anxious to get the feedback but I was very excited once I got my results.” Galena High School congratulates Maddy on her hard work and high placement in the competition.
