Pirate Competitor of the Week – Avery Stroyan Journalism
On Saturday, April 11 Avery competed in the IHSA Journalism Sectional. She committed to competing on Friday, replacing another student who was unable to compete. With no prior knowledge, Avery jumped in with her positive attitude and wrote some amazing yearbook copy. Avery took first place in her event and qualified for the state tournament this weekend in Bloomington. “Avery is going to be in Pubs next year, and if she does this well with no training, what amazing things she is going to do. I’m so incredibly proud of her,” said Journalism Coach, Susan Bookless.
Other Nominations – Kenzie Harris Varsity Softball
Freshman pitcher Kenzie Harris had a great week of pitching with 27 strikeouts in 21 innings and helped the team go 2-1 this weekend at the West Carroll tournament. Coach Ryan Zmich said,“Kenzie has a great work ethic and mental toughness when it comes to pitching. You can see all the hard work that she has put in and it’s paying off. When she’s pitching, you can see her having fun and she definitely has a bright future!”
