Pirate Competitor of the Week – Ell Law HS Girls Track
On Thursday, April 30th, Ell Law competed at an 18-team invite in Cuba City. She ran the 1600 in a time of 5:16.05. This time was a meet record, second all-time in our program’s history, and third all-time in the history of the NUIC conference. She then doubled back to get another win in the 800 to run a near PR of 2:23. She is currently second all-time in program history for the 800. She finished the night by anchoring our 4×400 to a second-place finish. She was named the meet MVP. Coach Michael Eyres said, “Ell has been setting PR’s in all of her events recently and is in a great spot going into the postseason as she is looking to qualify for state for the third year in a row. She is running with a ton of confidence and has been a great leader for our girls distance squad. We are lucky to have her!”

Alli Abt MS Track – Alli Abt has set a new school record for the long jump. Coach Sam Lange said, “We had a wet and cold meet in Lena, and Alli set a new PR for herself, jumping 4.44 meters. Alli is a great teammate who works hard and pushes others to do their best, too!”
Ruby Kouzmanoff JV Girls Softball – Coach Sara Rosenthal said, “Sophomore Ruby Kouzmanoff consistently leads by example. Her effort and dedication to softball are evident in every aspect of her game—whether she’s putting in work on hitting, fielding, her sharp base running instincts, or supporting her teammates. She boasts one of the team’s strongest on-base percentages and leads in hit-by-pitches (though she’d much rather be swinging the bat!). Ruby’s determination is what truly sets her apart, and we look forward to her continued contributions to Galena Softball.”
Cora Gullone JV Girls Softball – Coach Sara Rosenthal said, “Freshman Cora Gullone, who has been one of the team’s most consistent and powerful hitters this season, batting .529 and leading the team in total hits. Her performance at the plate has played a major role in our wins over the past two weeks. Her commitment to the program stands out, and there’s strong potential for continued growth in the years ahead.”
Eli Studtmann Varsity Baseball – Eli Studtmann started the week by pitching a no-hitter against Orangeville. He also went 2/3 from the plate with 2 RBI. In the first game against West Carroll, he went 3/4 with 1 double and 1 RBI. In game 2 against WC, he went 2/4 with 4 RBIs. Coach Ty Hartman said, “Eli has been working very hard all season long. His commitment to baseball and getting better every day is great for our program. Great work this week, Eli!”
Avery Werner Varsity Softball – Avery had a great week at the plate, collecting 5 hits with 7 RBIs & hitting a home run vs East Dubuque, helping the team get the win on Friday night. Coach Ryan Zmich said, “Avery has been solid all year at 2nd base & is a leader on the field.”
