The Lady Pirates softball squad lost big on Tuesday in their first game of the season. The girls played the Pearl City Wolves, and lost by a score of 14-0. The game was over after a long five innings of play.

The Pirates were never able to get the bats going, and ended the game with only one hit. Galena was also plagued with numerous errors. The errors were the main cause of Pearl City taking such a large lead.

The Pirates defense was a little spotty at times, and they racked up a total of 10 errors. Sophomore Corina Noble pitched the whole game for Galena.

“It sucks to lose in general, and it is even worse when you lose by as much as we did,” said senior Samantha Stoffregen. “We also had a lot of errors that let them score a lot of their runs. We still have the rest of our season ahead of us, and now with our first game jitters out of the way we can get down to business and start winning games to take this program to our full potential.”

Leading the way for the Wolves was Senior Tia Clark, who pitched a one hitter. Sarah Pena led her team in hits with two hits, a double and a single in her three at bats.

The Pirates will face Pearl City again in their next game on Thursday Mar, 28. The second game of the series will take place in Pearl City.
