Starting off strong. The girls track team gets together for a photo after winning their meet in Milledgeville. The team took first place in all but one of the events that night and took second and third place in that event. The team had a great start to the season and will continue to improve.

Coming back from a big season last spring the Galena, East Dubuque, and River Ridge girls track team was eager to begin practice. Last season, they took home a Conference title, third at Sectionals, and qualified for State in five events.

“I am hoping to have a big season my senior year,” said sprinter Morgan Wills ‘19. “My goals is to get better each time I compete.” Wills was a leg on each of the sprint relays. These three relays placed first at the team’s opening outdoor meet.

The team really focuses on beating their personal best times. They want to keep improving so they can be even more successful than last season.

“This is my first year doing track,” said Kate Moran ‘21. “I am enjoying it so far and really looking forward to racing in meets.” Moran is a new addition to the distance group this season. She placed second in the 800 meter dash and first in the 4×800 meter relay in the first meet.

The girls track team hosted a meet on March 26. This meet was at River Ridge and Galena, East Dubuque, and River Ridge took first place out of three teams. “I really enjoyed running in my first meet,” said Avery Engle ‘22. “I ran in the 4×800 relay and the 400 meter dash. I am hoping to bring down my times in each race I run.”
Engle placed second in the 400 meter dash and also was apart of the winning 4×800 meter relay.

With many meets on the schedule, the girls hope to continue getting better. There is always one goal in mind each time they step onto the track. Get better so I can qualify for the State Finals.

The next girls track meet is on Monday, April 8th at River Ridge.
