Five Things I’ll Miss Most About Basketball Season
- The team- every year it’s sad to think about the group of girls that won’t be there next year. We all build bonds and get close throughout the season. This year it’s different because I’m the only one leaving and everyone else gets to stay. There was a great group of younger girls under me this year and I can’t wait to see what they do throughout the next few years.
- The coaches- Coach Watson, Helle, and Engle all made a huge impact on how I have viewed basketball the past four years. This year in particular, they made an effort to make it as normal and special as possible for me. They have been great coaches and I’m grateful to have learned from them.
- Naps on the bus to away games- nothing better than squeezing your whole body onto the tiny benches and trying to get a good 30 minute snooze in before you have to play, it just hits different.
- Karaoke sessions on the way back from away games- when you win and the whole team decides to belt at the top of their lungs the whole way home from a game, it’s a feeling you never get tired of.
- Packed gyms- it was different this year, but when you would walk onto a court and hear nothing but fans, that’s what the sport is all about. The energy you pick up from a crowded gym is on a whole other level.
