Golf season is officially in full swing. Kicking off another great year, Connor Glasgow ‘24 tees off at his home course. The boys and girls golf teams started off their seasons with back-to-back wins making both teams undefeated. “For the first couple meets we’re playing very well,” said Glasgow. “We’re 4-0 in conference meets/tournaments and we have high hopes for the season. We hope to keep improving and make it to state.”

They’re teeing off for another great year! This week, Galena High School kicked off its boys and girls golf season.

On August 16, the teams played on their home course against Amboy. The Galena boys won 178 to 199 with medalist Ryan Stoffregen ‘23 shooting par with a 37. Scores were also used from junior Connor Glasgow (44), senior Caleb Soat (48), and senior Jacob Furlong (49).

“I think we have a solid team this year,” said Soat. “With Ryan going all out at golf this year and Jacob, Connor, Joey, and me, I think we have a pretty good chance at making it all the way to state.”

The girls team also had a successful meet winning against the Amboy girls with a score of 212. Medalist was Ayden Wells ‘23 with a 49 and runner-up was Kayleigh Folks ‘23 with a 51. Scores were also used from junior Ava Hillard (54) and senior Jenna Smith (58).

The next day, the girls and boys traveled to Lena to play against the LeWin/Pearl City boys and girls teams. The boys won 165 to 244 with Ryan Stoffregen medalling again with a 37. Jacob Furlong was runner-up with a 41. Scores were also used from Connor Glasgow (43) and Caleb Soat (44).

The girls also won their meet 190 to 218 with Wells medalling again with a 37. Runner-up was Kayleigh Folks with a 47 and scores were also used from Jenna Smith and Ava Hahn (both with 53s). “I had a great meet!” said Wells. “My main goal this season was to shoot under 40 so now that I got that out of the way, I’m hoping to stay consistent.” Both teams’ records are 2-0.

The boys left early the next day to play at the Cedar Rapids Washington Invite at Eagle Ridge. They placed 17th with a score of 384. Scores were taken from Ryan Stoffregen (85), Jacob Furlong (97), Connor Glasgow (97), Joey Heller (105), Quinn Wells (110), and Caleb Soat (111). The teams are excited to keep competing as they play more meets in the coming weeks. This is shaping up to be another great season for our boys and girls golf teams and Galena High School can’t wait to see how far they can go this season
