Before the 2024-2025 school year started an announcement came out saying that the students of Galena High School were no longer allowed to park on Franklin Street and were required to park in either the upper or lower lot. There were a lot of students who were not very happy with this news.
Junior Kenzie Brown said, “It is impractical to not be able to park on Franklin Street because it has never caused issues before and now the parking lot fills up a lot quicker.” The lower lot is filling up very quickly in the mornings which is resulting in the high school students that drive having to get here very early in the morning and just sit in their cars until the front doors open which can be very tiring and time-consuming.
Seniors Evelyn Callahan and Quinn Gordan had an opinion on not being able to park on Franklin Street anymore. Callahan said, “There is not enough space in the parking lot already and it will be even worse when the construction starts again. Gordan said, “I feel like people who are late should be able to park on Franklin or if we get to school and there are not any spots left in the parking lots. I feel like the increase of people driving to school will make it harder to not park on the street.”
The freshman and sophomores are going to start getting their license fairly quickly and if you do not get to the parking lot early enough you will have no choice but to park on the street which can risk getting in trouble. The Galena High School should start letting students park on Franklin Street again as later on there will be no parking left even if you get here really early.
