The final recipient of the Galena Rotary Student of the Quarter award for the ‘25 – ‘26 school year is Ayla Harris ‘28. This award recognizes sophomores who have excelled in their efforts to improve academically and are not always recognized for these efforts. One is chosen for this award based on teacher nominations who have noticed a student’s exemplary effort, performance, and overall character. Ayla is a student who exemplifies growth, resilience, and a consistently positive attitude, making her a standout member of our school community.
Mrs. Deppe commented, “Since joining us from Tri-State Christian School, Ayla has been an incredible addition to our student body. Transitioning from a private school environment to a public school can often present academic, social, and personal challenges. However, Ayla approached this change with confidence and determination. Her ability to embrace change with such maturity speaks volumes about her character.”
Throughout her time at Galena, Ayla has demonstrated tremendous personal and academic growth. She approaches her work with dedication and maintains a strong commitment to improvement. Equally impressive is her positive attitude—Ayla consistently brings encouragement and optimism into the classroom, contributing to a supportive and welcoming environment for both peers and staff. Mrs. Burken, her math teacher, commented, “This girl has grown immensely this year!! She is incredibly proactive, works very hard, and is so genuinely nice. I enjoy having her in class and am going to miss having her in class next year! “ Mrs. McIntyre stated, “ Ayla has worked so hard in Driver’s Ed, and been so responsible, keeping her grades up while being pulled from multiple classes. That is not always an easy task. She is a great communicator and leads with her actions. She has been a joy to have in class and behind the wheel.” And Mrs. Brown said, “Ayla has been great in my class and a great addition to our ag program.” Ayla’s genuine passion for learning, all while keeping a positive attitude, doesn’t go unnoticed by teachers and has led to her being the perfect nominee for this award.
Ayla’s character, perseverance, and willingness to grow make her highly deserving of this recognition. She represents the values that the Galena Rotary Student of the Quarter program seeks to honor, and I am confident she will continue to make a meaningful impact in our school community.
Ayla enjoys art class because it is relaxing and she has the freedom to create and use her imagination. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Brown because she is always there for Ayla to talk to, she encourages her, and makes class fun and enjoyable. After graduation, she would like to go to cosmetology school to learn about hair and beauty, and would like to open her own salon someday. Outside of school, Ayla likes to snowboard, travel, hang out with friends, play with her dog, and play pickleball.
