The second recipient of the Galena Rotary Student of the Quarter for the ‘25 – ‘26 school year is Emma Ehrler ‘28. This award recognizes sophomores who have excelled in their efforts to improve academically and are not always recognized for these efforts. One can be chosen for this award from teacher nominations that express why a student should be nominated. Ehler is a prime example of what this award is all about.
GHS teachers had nothing but positive things to comment about Ehrler and her demeanor in the classroom. “Emma is an outstanding student who is always willing to do any task that is given to her,” Mrs. Duerr, Ehrler’s business teacher states. “She demonstrates exceptional dedication, strong work habits, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.” Whether Ehrler is participating in classroom discussions, tackling challenging assignments, or assisting teachers and peers, she consistently demonstrates initiative, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. She is always willing to take on any task assigned to her and does so with a positive attitude that uplifts those around her
Emma is a student who leads by example—kind, motivated, and always striving to improve. She embodies the values of our school community and represents the very best of what we hope to encourage in all our students. Mrs. Calfee shares, “To say Emma is an exceptional young lady is an understatement. The amount of hard work and dedication she puts towards her school work is amazing. In math class she comes prepared to learn every day, and is very proactive in asking questions to make sure that she understands what she is doing. On top of her excellent work ethic, she is kind and polite to everyone she interacts with. Emma is a true delight to have in class!”
Ehrler also carries this tenacious attitude out of the classroom and onto the court. She brings the same determination, teamwork, and upbeat spirit to the court as she does to the classroom. Her ability to balance athletics and academics while maintaining such a high level of performance in both areas is truly commendable.
After high school, Erhler would like to go to college to be a dental hygienist and play volleyball at the collegiate level. Her favorite class is Parenting and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Friederick. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with family and friends and of course, playing volleyball. Praise and recognition all goes to Ehrler and the Pirate nation is endlessly proud!
