Congratulations to Pirate Competitor of the Week Braden Kevern Coach Matt Wienen said, “Braden had a good start to the season so far averaging 14 points per game, in our three games this week at the Scales Mound Turkey Tournament. Braden led our team in scoring this weekend while helping the team to a 2-1 record and getting Second place in the Scales Mound Tournament. Braden also received All-Tournament Team honors for his performance in the three games. Braden and his teammates have been working extremely hard these past few weeks getting ready for this season and it paid off in a big way! Braden is a good shooter/scorer and he proved that all week for us. He scored a team high 17 points vs River Ridge and 12 points in a victory vs Scales Mound. We are looking forward to seeing more great things from Braden throughout this season!”
There will be a Student Council meeting on Tuesday during Homeroom. The meeting will be in Mrs. Rosenthal’s room. See you then!
Attention anyone interested in girls’ soccer: there will be an informational meeting for the 2025 season immediately after school on Tuesday in Ms. AB’s room. This meeting will be no more than 15 minutes.
GHS students are expected to stay during Homeroom on Friday, the 6th. The Galena VFW will give a short assembly, after which students will be dismissed for the weekend.
Get ready for a night of fun and games! Join us for the NHS Reindeer Games on December 19 from 6:00-8:00 PM at GEMS. Show off your skills in our dodgeball tournament or test your aim with a game of bags. Admission is only $3, and there will be snacks and drinks available for sale. Sign up outside Mrs. Friedrick’s room to secure your spot! Don’t miss out on this awesome event.
To go deer hunting, students must submit a completed Planned Absence form, signed by a parent or guardian, and a valid state hunting license and tag to Mrs. Heller at least two days in advance. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence, which may be treated as truancy. For the 2024-2025 school year, students are only allowed one planned absence per hunting season and two absences for hunting in total. If you plan to deer hunt during the second shotgun season, all required paperwork must be submitted to the office and approved by 3:30PM on Tuesday, December 3rd for Thursday hunting and 3:30 PM on Wednesday, December 4th for Friday hunting.
Please join the NHS in spreading holiday cheer to local families in need! The NHS Giving Tree is set up in the library. Each tag hanging on the tree represents a gift wish from a local child or family. We’re inviting all students & staff to participate.
Here is how it works:
- Pick a tag from the tree
- Buy the gift listed on the tag
- Wrap the gift and attach the tag
- Return the wrapped gift to the Giving Tree by December 13th
Let’s make this holiday season brighter for someone in need!
