Good morning, GHS freshmen and sophomores. Happy last week of school! Be sure to see Mrs. McIntyre by the end of the week to get permit slips or Blue slips before the summer months. These will not be available over the summer unless arrangements are made by Friday.
The Galena Varsity Pirates baseball team fought hard last night, Monday, May 18, but ultimately dropped a tight home contest to Southwestern by a score of 4-3. The Pirates collected seven hits on the evening, led by a stellar day at the plate from Drew Koenigs, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Eli Studtmann, Jacob Loso, and Roman Romer each added a hit to the offensive tally, with Loso and Romer driving in a run apiece. On the bump, Studtmann got the start and pitched four effective innings, allowing just one run and two hits while striking out two. Jaycob Benson threw three innings of relief, striking out four batters. Despite a late push with a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates couldn’t quite complete the comeback. Head heads high, Pirates! We’ll get ’em next time!
