The Galena Varsity Pirates secured a massive 16-8 victory over East Dubuque this Monday in a high-scoring, back-and-forth thriller. The Pirates’ offense exploded for 14 total hits, led by Eli Studtmann and Roman Romer, who each recorded three hits on the night. Trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth, Galena completely flipped the momentum in the sixth inning by scoring six runs, highlighted by a clutch two-RBI single from Owen Hefel. They continued the onslaught in the seventh with five insurance runs, including a two-RBI single by Jacob Loso. On the mound, Drew Koenigs started the game and racked up eight strikeouts, while Studtmann earned the win in relief by holding East Dubuque hitless over the final two and a third innings. The Pirates look to carry this momentum into their next matchup at River Ridge/Scales Mound today.
