Last night was a great night for GHS Softball as both varsity and JV earned big wins! Galena took down West Carroll in the varsity matchup, 12–2. Sophomore Casey Mann led the charge at the plate, collecting three hits, including two doubles and a triple. The JV squad followed with a 13–8 victory. Freshman Cora Gullone and sophomore Eeva Kilkku powered the offense, each driving in two runs in their at-bats for Galena. Galena is back in action Thursday at West Carroll.
It was a dominant night for Galena Pirate Baseball as both Varsity and JV secured massive victories over West Carroll! Varsity Victory: The Varsity team powered their way to an 18-3 win. Gus Nack was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4, while Colten McCartney led the team with four RBIs. Drew Koenigs earned the win on the mound, racking up eight strikeouts. JV Shutout: The JV Pirates cruised to a 12-0 victory. Brant Romer went 3-for-3 to lead a 12-hit attack, and Landen Lange pitched a gem, allowing zero runs while striking out six. The Pirates look to keep the bats hot as they head to West Carroll for a rematch this Thursday. Congratulations, Pirates!
Hello Student Drivers- Exciting news!! Mrs. Friederick bought a new car!!!! 🙂 So she will once again be parking in her assigned spot for the remainder of the school year. Some of you have been parking in her spot (which was fine) while she was car-free…but she is reclaiming her spot! Thank you for your cooperation!
Galena FFA Plant Sale- Don’t miss out on getting some great plants that the agricultural classes have been taking care of all year. We start our sale on May 2 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Our other times are: May 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm, and May 9, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Any students who want to be on next year’s Scholastic Bowl team should attend the meeting today during homeroom in Mr. Tancrell’s room. If you plan on joining but cannot attend, email Coach Ron Jenkins.
Good morning, Galena! A huge reminder to the Class of 2026: This Friday, May 1, is College Decision Day! We want to celebrate your next steps, so please make sure to wear a shirt or sweatshirt representing the college you’ve chosen. On Friday morning, please check in with your A1 teacher first, and then head directly to the front of the school at 8:00 AM for a group class photo. We can’t wait to see all those college colors!
And now, some important details for everyone attending Prom this Saturday, May 2: The Grand March kicks off at 4:00 PM at Grant Park. All students participating should arrive early to line up on the Main Street side of the bridge. A reminder that attendance at the Grand March is mandatory for all members of the Prom Court, as we will head to the Gazebo immediately following the march for the crowning of the King and Queen. The dance begins at 7:00 PM at Turner Hall. Make sure you are there and checked in by 8:00 PM at the latest. If you are bringing a guest who does not attend Galena High School, they must have a photo ID to get in. Also, please be aware that all bags will be checked at the door. The dance wraps up at 10:00 PM. Let’s make it a safe and incredible night, Pirates!
