JV football exceeds expectations

Starting the season off on a good note has always been a key point to begin the Pirate’s JV football season.  Working incredibly hard in the unrelenting heat throughout the summer months was a tough challenge for the boys, but understanding what could be done this season was always in their minds.

“Lifting and continuously working hard during practice in the off-season is really going to help us achieve our goals this season,” said sophomore Kris Knautz.

Finally, the boys played in their first game on August 26, against Amboy.  The boys worked hard through the tough game and finally came out of the game on top.

Winning the first game set the tone for the season. “Our team goal this season is being conference champs or having a record above 500,” said Knautz.

But after a tough week of practice getting ready for the team, Forreston, the Pirates fell to their first defeat of the season.

JV football head coach, Kyle Knight said, “Good effort.  Lack of execution.”

Learning from the mistakes made in that game, the boys worked once again hard in practice getting the ready for the school rival team, East Dubuque.  Playing at East Dubuque, the Pirates beat the Warriors 22-8, making their current conference record 2-1.

Gearing up for this upcoming homecoming football game against Le-Win has been a priority for this last week.  Knowing that Le-Win is a rough and tough team, the boys look forward to showing the crowd what they have to offer.
